Reserve Program

The Affton Fire Protection District Reserve program currently has 33 members.  As a member of the Reserve Program, you help the Fire District provide Fire, Rescue and EMS service to the community on a volunteer basis.

Reserve Trainees are required to complete a Basic Firefighting Course with the Affton Fire Protection District, comply with national standards of the National Incident Management System, and meet a minimum standard in Hazardous materials response.

Our members gain valuable training and experience while volunteering with us.  Over the years many of our former reserves have made a career out of the fire service.  Many have been hired by the District as full time employees.  Even more have been hired by Fire Departments and Districts though out St. Louis County, St. Charles County, Jefferson County and at the City of the St. Louis.

Minimum requirements for Reserve Program:

  • 21 years old

  • have a current state drivers license

  • complete a Missouri Highway Patrol background check

  • pass drug screen and physical

  • High School diploma or equivalent

  • EMT license preferred

Once accepted into Reserve Program the Trainee/Volunteer must:

  • complete Basic Fire Fighter course (provided by the District)

  • complete NIMS ICS 100, 200, 700 and 800

  • complete a Hazardous Materials Awareness Level Course

  • complete Emergency Driving Course

  • perform 36 hours per month in twelve hour shifts; 8AM - 8PM or 8PM - 8AM

  • perform 6 hours certified training (provided by the District) per quarter

  • provide current phone number & set up g-mail for scheduling and contact purposes

  • follow all District rules and regulations, as well as District SOP's

The Reserve Program accepts applications all year long and applications are kept on file for 1 year.  As the need arises to hire new reserves the process starts.  Typically a group of 10-12 reserves are needed before a new class is formed.
